Here Are 19 Of The Easiest And Most Effective Hair And Skincare Tips I Learned This Past Year

Press Release These have never let me down.

Hey everyone! I’m Fabiana, a millennial female who loves all things beauty and can spend hours talking about my favorite hair hacks and skincare tips.

Last year, I spent a lot of time revamping my skincare routine, learning the importance of skin prep for makeup, trying TikTok hair hacks, and learning how to properly care for my hair in the winter. So going into 2022, I wanted to round up some of the best hair and skincare tips and tricks that I came across — and put them all in one place. Here they are:

1.

Secure your hair into a ponytail or bun before you go out in the cold weather, so it doesn’t have to battle coat collars, scarfs, and the changing elements as much.

Putting your hair into a ponytail will help prevent it from getting as tangled, matted, and knotted in the cold weather. Read more here.

2.

To prevent frizz, replace your post-shower regular towel with a microfiber hair towel. It’s softer and more gentle on your hair compared to a regular towel.

3.

If you’re applying a hair mask, cover it with a shower cap to retain even more moisture.

Shower caps help lock in moisture and heat. Afterwards, rinse the mask out with cool water for extra shiny hair. Read more here.

4.

If you have curly hair, use tailored products that pair well together to keep them frizz-free.

Madison Keene, research and development specialist for Not Your Mother’s, recommends using styling products that have hold to them. “A curl cream in conjunction with a gel are a power couple for helping strands retain definition and combat any frizz.”

“Styling products contain film-forming ingredients that will help keep moisture in and enhance overall style,” she said. Read more here.

5.

Easily create volume at the roots by using a flat iron.

It may sound counterintuitive, but it works. When I saw TikTokker @taybeckerbeauty flat-iron her roots straight up, I wanted to try it — and I can confirm it works like a charm. When the hair lays back down, there is a bit of extra volume. Read more about it here.

6.

Or, for easy soft curls that don’t require any heat tools, use the braided sock method.

When your hair is damp after a shower, part it down the middle, divide it into two sections, and wrap each section around a tube sock or a scarf. After you sleep on it, you’ll have easy curls in the morning. Read more here.

7.

If you’re trying to prolong your hairstyle but have dirty roots, spray in dry shampoo before bed.

When you wake up in the morning, just brush out the dry shampoo to reveal clean, fresh looking hair. Read more about it here.

8.

If you have dandruff, avoid hair products that contain alcohol, sulfates, and phthalates.

These ingredients are all drying and make the scalp prone to irritation. Read more about it here.

9.

If you have extremely dry hair, consider skipping the shampoo every other wash — or all together.

“Shampoo less, condition more. You can skip the shampoo all together in the shower,” said Jon Reyman, celeb stylist & Dyson global styling ambassador.

“Just rinse hair well, condition, and then rinse well again,” he said. Read more about it here.

10.

If you have a dry scalp, keep it moisturized with an oil treatment.

For an extra moisturizing treatment, try the oiling method — a technique that consists of applying and massaging oil on your scalp in a circular motion.

Once the oil is massaged in, cover your head with a shower cap, leave on overnight, and wash your hair like normal the next day. You’ll be left with a happy, hydrated scalp. Read more here.

11.

Use a satin scrunchie instead of a hair tie. The scrunchie won’t get tangled and pull out a chunk of your hair the way a regular hair tie would.

Follow the “less is more” method if your skin is having a flare up or a reaction to something.

A few months ago when I was trying to revamp my skincare routine, I scaled back on all the products I was using to keep my routine simple: cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, occasional exfoliant — and that’s it. Read more about it here.

13.

If you have sensitive skin, swap out your physical exfoliator for a chemical one.

Chemical exfoliants come in liquid form and gently break down bonds between skin cells and congested pores, and they work on a more cellular level. Chemical exfoliants are less intense than their physical counterparts so they can be used every day, as long as one’s skin can handle it. Read more about it here.

14.

Incorporate a hyaluronic acid into your skincare regimen if you have dry skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a holy grail product that helps to retain and attract water to keep our skin hydrated. The key when using it is to apply it to clean, damp skin and then top if off with a moisturizer to lock in all the hydration. Read more about it here.

15.

If you’re tired of your undereye area looking dry and flaky under makeup, apply a beauty oil in addition to an eye cream prior to makeup application for extra hydration.

After letting your skin absorb your chosen eye cream, use your ring finger to gently apply the oil under your eyes and above your brow bone. Keep massaging in the oil until it feels fully absorbed. Read more about it here.

16.

Use a thick moisturizer in addition to your regular moisturizer to hydrate the extra-dry patches on your skin.

A super thick moisturizer helps soothe and moisturize any pesky, dry patches you might not be able to get rid of with your regular, daily moisturizer. My favorite is Weleda Skin Food Original Ultra-Rich Cream — and I apply it to problem dry spots along my jaw-line.

Wait several minutes to let all of your skincare products do their magic before diving into your makeup routine.

It’s important to give your skin time to absorb the products you just applied to prevent makeup from piling. Read more here.

18.

If you wake up with puffy eyes, opt for an undereye cream or serum with caffeine in it.

I learned from this post that The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG serum is a go-to for some people as it supposedly blends in nicely, doesn’t feel sticky, and delivers results — like de-puffing — quite quickly. Read more about it here.

If you’re shopping for a new sunscreen to add into your skincare routine, remember that you can actually use your FSA or HSA dollars to pay for it.

I was mind-blown when I learned about this tip earlier this year. You can find FSA-eligible products from Supergoop (and other great brands) on Amazon and FSAstore.com. Read more about it here.
